Chasing New Career Dreams

career change

There was a time when I woke up every morning feeling a spark—an excitement about the work ahead. I was lucky, or so I thought. I had turned my passion into a career, something everyone says is the ultimate dream. But what happens when that passion starts to fade? When the work that once energized you begins to feel like a chore?

Lately, I’ve been grappling with that question. The thing I once loved no longer excites me the way it used to. It’s a disorienting feeling, like standing at a crossroads without a map. I’ve caught myself reminiscing about the early days, when every project felt like a new adventure. Now, I feel more like I’m running on autopilot.

I’ve been reading about others who faced the same dilemma—people who dared to pivot and found new directions that reignited their curiosity. One story that stuck with me was Sarah’s. She loved geography as a kid, spent years building a career in tourism, and eventually realized her passion had faded. After months of self-reflection, she pivoted into digital marketing, blending her love for travel with her newfound interest in the online world.

Sarah’s story gave me hope. I haven’t made my pivot yet, but I’ve been researching books that might help me figure things out. I haven’t read them yet, but they’re on my list: Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett and Dave EvansThe Pivot Year by Brianna Wiest, and Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. From what I’ve gathered, these books are full of insights about navigating career changes and reconnecting with creativity.

The hardest part of this experience is letting go of the identity I built around my current career. It feels like breaking up with a version of myself that I worked so hard to create. But maybe that’s part of growth—acknowledging that we change, and our careers can change with us.

So here I am, standing at the edge of something new, not quite sure what comes next but curious enough to explore. Have you ever felt your passion for your work start to fade? Did you make a change, or did you find a way to reignite that spark? I’d love to hear your story—after all, we’re all just figuring it out as we go.
