Every year, I make a list of resolutions that I swear will change my life. And every year, somewhere between February and March, they start to fade into the background. But in 2025, I’m determined to make at least one resolution stick: I need to change my relationship with fitness.
I’m not in my best shape, and I can feel it. I wake up tired, my energy dips throughout the day, and I know I should be taking better care of myself. But the real challenge? I’ve spent years waiting to feel motivated. I used to think motivation was the key—that if I just waited for the right moment, the right burst of energy, I’d finally commit. But the truth is, motivation is flaky. It shows up when it wants and disappears just as fast. Discipline, on the other hand, is what actually gets things done. I need to work out no matter what.
That’s easier said than done. I’m one of those girls who goes to the gym, but once I’m there, I stick to cardio because I don’t know how to use half the machines. And honestly? I feel a little intimidated. I tell myself I don’t have time to learn (though, in reality, I just haven’t made the time). And lately, the cold, rainy weather hasn’t helped—it’s way too easy to convince myself to stay curled up indoors.
I know these are just excuses. I hear myself saying them, and I know better. But this year, I have a bigger reason to push through. It’s not just about looking better (although I won’t lie, I’d love to finally achieve that summer body I’ve dreamed of). It’s about feeling stronger, healthier, and more confident in my own skin. And, okay, maybe picturing myself on a Mediterranean beach in a bikini is a tiny bit of motivation.
So I’ve started searching for the best workouts for busy women—something effective, something realistic, something that will keep me moving even when I don’t feel like it. Because this year, I’m not waiting for motivation to show up. I’m choosing discipline instead.
For those of you who do manage to stay consistent with fitness, I’d love to know—how do you do it? How do you fit workouts into a packed schedule? And if you were once a cardio-only gym girl like me, how did you break out of that routine? Drop your tips, because I need all the help I can get.
